Financial Services Company???

March 10th, 2009 at 01:39 am

I started managing money with a guy through Ameriprise Financial. He left and went to MetLife, I followed. We don't really hear from him and frankly, I think I can handle watching funds and stocks myself.

So where should I go? I heard Charles Schwab is good.

I just want to transfer things, not sure how hard it will be. I have a MMA, Roth, 1 stock and 2 mutual funds. They are simply serviced by MetLife (Pershing).

I want to ditch the 2 funds (IMRFX and JALGX) and take what little money that's left and put it in better funds. Suggestions?

The truth is, most people can manage a good majority of their own investments if they have the motivation, so I agree with your course of action. And when you add the fact that many of these financial services recommend funds that basically take a hefty fee off the top of your money, well....

There are plenty of good investment companies out there, and Vanguard, Fidelity, and T. Rowe Price are the big three in my book. I recommend to look into all three. Best of all, most of them have very reasonable loads and expense ratios.
